Why Squid?

• Well, first and foremost, the internet is all about branding. There is only one Omega Squid in the world, and that is here!
• Second of all, it is because I have a great deal of interest for marine life!
• Thirdly, OSS is comprised of many divisions, or ‘tentacles’ that provide a dizzying array of services. A squid makes sense because it is the business model!

Founder/Owner

My name is Shelby Jones, and I am the owner of Omega Squid Studios! I started OSS originally for the sole purpose of the creation of my games, but I soon realized that it could be much more! After 7 years the company has grown into a juggernaut of services and products, ranging from ecommerce to web design, and anything in between.

I am currently a freshman at the University of Kentucky, attending on the prestigious Singletary Scholarship, which covers tuition, room & board, as well as a yearly stipend. I am majoring in Biology, with a minor in Computer Science. You can find out more about me at my own personal website/resume/portfolio.

I have been around technology my entire life, and I credit my ability to use it with ease to that fact. Some of the hobbies that I enjoy are SCUBA Diving and aquariums – I enjoy these because I have always loved the ocean and its mysterious creatures. In fact, my goal is to become a marine biologist!

In addition to the ocean, I also enjoy programming, movies, video games, football, basketball, hiking, fishing, and camping.

The Website

The osquid.com website is powered by the excellent and free open source blogging software known as WordPress. I have implemented several plugins that allow me to use the software as a CMS (Content Management System) for all the OSS data it needs to hold!

The web host of Omega Squid Studios has been WebHostingBuzz (WHB) since early 2008. They have been a reliable and friendly company to do business with, and their uptime is much greater than that of OSS’s previous webhost! Check them out!

Omega Squid Studios

Prior to 2001

A small group of creative drawings and young artists in grade school was the true beginning of what is now Omega Squid Studios. In 2001, however, things began to change. As a 4th grade student I created a small cartoon character by the name of Starie. From this came creation of other small characters. Eventually, I sold small comics, operating under the name of Lemon Corp., after the creation of the character Lemon.

2001-2003

The next year Lemon Corp. was disbanded and a new alliance with fellow class artists was made. It was named Creatures Unlimited, and featured not only all of my previous creations like Starie, but a new, more prominent Dragon series. After the 6th grade, Creatures Unlimited also came to an end.

2004-Present

Omega Squid Studios was created in the year 2004 with one goal – creating computer games with a software that was, at that time, starting to gain popularity. This program is Game Maker, and is currently in version 7. You can visit its site here.

Starting with my first game, Aliengeddon, in late 2004, I soon renamed the Creatures Unlimited of old and became the Squid. The first OSS website went live at freewebs in early 2005. The site still exists to this day – www.freewebs.com/omega_squid.

In 2006 I began INK! Consignment, an eBay/online consignment business. Later in 2007 I began to focus on web design and video. I purchased domains, the first being osquid.com, and then later domains that are now part of the Omega Squid Network.

OSS began to delve into further forms of digital entertainment in 2007, including video, music, graphics, and of course games. OSS also pursued independent film makers and offered its publishing reach to them. The first to join was HorrorHut Productions, a small start-up created by a close friend. The two companies are now working together to bring independent films to life!

Omega Squid Studios continues to produce free, high quality digital entertainment and paid services to its large consumer base, and will never stop in its quest to be the best entertainment in the world.

The Omega Squid Network

The Omega Squid Network is the network of various websites that OSS maintains, develops, or owns. There are also sites in the network that are smaller game studios that Omega Squid Studios publishes.

Omega Squid Studios works VERY hard to develop their websites and services so that you can enjoy all that OSS has to offer.
